Dearest internet friends,

Welcome to 2025’s first episode of The Palm Report.

We have so many exciting things planned for this year that I can’t wait to share with you. But until then, here’s this week’s instalment of what’s hot in life & leisure.

Much love ☼

☼ This level of curiosity is really inspiring to me. This video follows one man’s quest to find a working model of Sony’s gargantuan tube TV: The KX45-45ED1. It weighed over 440lbs and cost $40,000 in 1989. If you liked Reply All’s cult episode “The Case of The Missing Hit”, you’ll probably like this too.

“Ultimately, Time Anxiety is a call to wake up from the trance of busyness and reclaim our most precious resource.” This book sounds excellent and necessary. And it’s on pre-order now.

☼ Sure, you have game. But do you have as much game as the guy taking his date to one of these love hotels in Japan? A joyful photography series by François Prost.

☼ So when is someone going to buy this mid-century Italian corner sofa with an in-built record player, and invite us all over to listen to the Sade Promise album?

☼ Really into this outdoor public “dining room” in Iowa by design studio, i/thee. They used water pressure to erode the walls, and then 3D modelling to make the tables fit seamlessly. 10/10—would sit here with a crumbling gluten-free sandwich.

Hand picked with the utmost care exclusively for the most fervent leisure enthusiasts…

☼ If I don’t spend my retirement like Irving V. Link at the Beverley Hills Hotel pool, what am I doing with my life? If you’ve got some time on your hands, sink into this delightful long-read from February 22, 1993.

☼ Evidence: Audio brands used to know marketing.

☼ Just a really great Facebook group of people uploading photos of them hiking in the ‘70s.

This 1:15 scale model of the Porsche 959 by artist Benedict Radcliffe is really beautiful.

☼ I pretty much live in a uniform of Breton tees. And now, thanks to Solid Nature, I can have a marble side table on wheels to match.

☼ I’m absolutely fascinated by this Sonic Heirloom project by Map Project Office and Father. It’s a wall-mounted player that records memories for future generations to enjoy. Now, if like me, you’re cynical about your grandkids inheriting hours of audio of you shuffling about the kitchen, you’ll be glad to know that it only records when you switch it on. I suspect we’ll see more products like this in wake of the “disappearing internet” discourse.

☼ If you’re in NY before January 25th, this joint exhibition between painter, Alexis Mata, and sculpturist Raul De Lara that explores their Mexican heritage, is worth a visit.

☼ Ooooh yes. In my opinion, no discerning coffee table is now complete without this beautiful photo book of 100 “seductive cars” shot at sundown

Until next time!
