Miami highlights ☼ Vintage Ralph Lauren ☼ My dream basement

Dearest internet friends,
Welcome to this week’s instalment of what’s hot in life & leisure.
I’m still smiling from our Art Basel party on Saturday. Thank you so much to everyone who came along, I saw at least 500 people in full '80s boardroom attire — including our 35(!) Vacation® staff who — as expected — went to town harder than anyone. An incredible effort all round. A big shout-out to our DJs, Dabeull, Breakbot, Irfane, Yasmin, Kito, Cezaire and Raphael Futura, alongside our wonderful partner & sponsor, Malibu.

We're now working on at least 4 events for 2025, I hope to see you there!
Much love ☼
Marty

☼ Take a step inside a beautiful mezzanine home in Akashi, Japan. I’m 99.98% certain that waking up to this uninterrupted view of the ocean every morning would solve most of my problems.

☼ Imagine it’s January 1st 1981, and you know your year is going to be 1000x better thanks to this spiral-bound calendar of Debbie Harry with facsimile autographed outer cover.
☼ Let strangers know that you read with the MAEKAN x DSPTCH Book Strap. They also recommend this as a laptop bag, if you want to display the type of nonchalance for valuable items that can only stem from inordinate wealth.
☼ Ralph Lauren has curated a collection of their archival vintage pieces which you can buy online. Catch me on the slopes in this 1992 mockneck.

Hand picked with the utmost care exclusively for the most fervent leisure enthusiasts…
☼ My friend Sari — the founder of Sublime — wrote an incredibly thought-provoking article about why human creativity trumps productivity, especially with the expansion of AI. She dives deep into three stages of the creative process: Collecting, Connecting and Creating and explains how certain tools and structures can support each of these important stages. It’s an article I know I’ll come back to time and time again.
☼ A wonderful YouTube channel that documents traditional Chinese crafts. I particularly enjoyed watching the process of these thousand-layer cloth shoes.
☼ If I had a basement, I’d cover the walls in wood panelling, add this round 1960s desk and Gadhouse's new “Brad Retro MKII” record player, then never leave.

☼ Very into single-purpose websites. Like this one which Emily posted in the Poolsuite Slack. It grabs your location to show you when the sun will rise and set on a simple analogue clock face.
☼ Also check out Emily's Minimalist Gift Guide if you're in need of some last minute inspiration.
☼ If you liked the mezzanine house in the first link, you’re probably going to love this two-storey mezzanine tent from Nokken and BIG Softshell.
☼ Let the works of Venezuela-born designer, Jorge Suárez-Kilzi become your new obsession. Inspired by nature, he creates pieces that feel like “snapshots of a changing living thing.”

☼ Incredibly late to the party (as in, 70 years late) but I recently discovered the Gemini Express coffee maker. In 2023, they re-developed the design with a suite of new colours.
☼ “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to leave behind your hectic city life, ditch your mundane office job and move out to a mystical island to live your dream life?” Yes, Justin Monarch, yes we have. This interview with willow weaver, Alex Rooted is the most inspiring 3 minutes and 10 seconds you’ll spend today.
Until next time!
See you online ☼
