Flower Boy Grown: TYLER, THE CREATOR

Tyler, the Creator (and his many nicknames and alter-egos including his given name, Tyler Gregory Okonma) is one of the most effortlessly fascinating artists out there. From kickstarting Odd Future to a Grammy win for his album IGOR to creating his signature shoe line in collaboration with Converse, the "Flower Boy" has long come into his own yet we can't look away.
He recently opened his appointment-only pop up store in Malibu to showcase coveted wares from his "beauty brand" Golf le Fleur —though he's reluctant to label it so — attended by everyone from Jay-Z to Kanye to André 3000.
“I’m more of a painter than a poet," he explained of his choice to do an ephemeral store, aided by his long time collaborator Tara Razavi whom Tyler credits with an integral role in his world-building.
"I’m sick of the internet. I needed everything to be in a certain building, on this rack, in a specific location. I wanted a certain smell in the air, a certain song playing. I wanted my customers to get to the place in a particular way."
That way ended up being transported to the store via Rolls-Royce.

No stranger to disparities as an eclectic carhead with an unreleased Bossa Nova album who also scored Virgil Abloh's last show, perhaps Tyler's real genius comes from his creative approach, discussed in detail as part of Converse's All Star Series in both Tyler's hometown of LA and Paris, highly recommended by Poolsuite.
The reason he's able to navigate seamlessly between a number of projects and disciplines is attributed to a collection of ideas.
One of these is that it's okay to change gears or let go of an idea. “I think if anyone here is making stuff and you’re starting to do it but you don’t feel it anymore, it’s super fire to just stop. Like, ‘I don’t wanna do this anymore,’ that’s okay. Just go do something else because you’re not fucking married to it in the literal sense,” he explained. "Intent is just true feeling."
From his music to his clothes, Tyler is acutely attuned to detail but isn't precious with it. "With this new Le Fleur stuff, everyone who came to the store, everyone who buys a piece, I’m like, ‘Yo, this silk shirt? Wear it! Don’t keep it on ice. Live in it, get holes in it, go to an orgy in it."
